about

"After hearing only a few releases on notable labels like Summer Interlude, SGFF, Serrated Tapes, Tribe Tapes & Trust Collective, I was hooked and thoroughly impressed by the range and sonic palate being explored, especially for being such a recently established project.

"City of Women: Human Architecture" is an album specifically concerning the choreography of women in opulent Hollywood films of the golden era, particularly those directed by Busby Berkeley, an American film director and choreographer who devised elaborate musical production numbers that often involved complex geometric patterns. Berkeley's works used large numbers of showgirls and props as fantasy elements in kaleidoscopic on-screen performances. In addition, the fascination with the female leg and the use of it in creating patterns and tunnels largely contribute to the theme of "Human Architecture".

The imagery pays homage to a visual style and conceptual approach that is very recognizable at this point, but what stands out most here is the arrangement of these ambitious maximalist HNW compositions that drastically transform many times over the course of a single track, each containing many moving parts that could individually go on much longer, but shift long before wearing out their welcome...it's a maelstrom of crackling, popping, crunching audio textures that are masterfully linked together in a glorious unified commotion." - Branden Diven
